Even More New Homes Needed

The Government has promised to build an extra three million homes in England by 2020, but it looks like it still won’t be enough. The National Housing and Planning Advice Unit (NHPAU) was set up to advise ministers on new homes, and it has reported that about quarter of a million will be needed.

Mortgage Lending Falls Sharply

There was a 12% fall in mortgage lending in September, which adds great weight to the belief that the housing market is slowing down. The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) revealed figures showing that loans totalled £29.96bn in September – down by more than £4bn on August’s figure. The fall is twice the usual 5% drop expected at this time of year.
